PhD Graduation Requirements
Materials › PhD graduation requirements
The UCL PhD is a four-year programme. Below is what I expect from students in my group before they graduate.
Publication requirement
A student may graduate with any one of the following combinations:
- 3 SE CCF-A papers
- 2 SE CCF-A papers + 2 AI top-tier papers
- 1 SE CCF-A paper + 3 AI top-tier papers
- 4 AI top-tier papers
Which venues count
- SE CCF-A (research track only, or the corresponding journal): ICSE, ASE, FSE, ISSTA, TSE, TOSEM — see the CCF SE venue ranking.
- AI top-tier: ICML, ICLR, NeurIPS, ACL Main, CVPR, etc. — see the CCF AI venue ranking.
Track the submission deadlines for all of these at CCF Deadlines.
Authorship rule
A paper only counts towards graduation if both hold:
- the student is the first author, in first position, and
- I am the last author and the corresponding author.
